An Important Message About House Training

Dear New Pet Owner:
HERE IS AN IMPORTANT MESSAGE ABOUT HOUSE TRAINING

    @-$&%(V*&*(()) )      *&TT%$##@@......

    NOW DID YOU UNDERSTAND THAT?

Of course not.  But that is how your puppy feels when you are speaking to him about house breaking or any other form of training.  Believe it or not..they don't speak English!

A puppy that is 6 to 8 weeks old is a lot like a baby that is not quite old enough to potty train.  While you are jumping up and down hollering because the new puppy just had a accident on your carpet all he feels is confusion.  He doesn't know what he did wrong... just that you are really upset.  There are some ways to make this whole training thing less traumatic for everyone.

1). Don't let your puppy develop any bad habits in the first place.  Like don't let him potty where he wants to for a few days and then expect to alter that habit later.

2). Remember that when they wake up, just after meals, and just after play time they will potty.

3). They have limited bladder capacity in their early lives, so do not expect them to wait for hours.

4). A crate or large box can be an invaluable training tool.  They by nature do not want to potty in their bed.  So each time you take them out place them on newspaper.  You must be persistent and do it over and over again.  If you have a small area that you can contain the puppy in, then paper the entire area outside his box for a few days.  Then begin removing the paper closest to the box.  As the puppy get the message of where he is suppose to potty he will potty further and further from the bed/box.  In just a couple of weeks you will be down to one piece of newspaper and can move it to the door and later, out the door.

5). Do not turn him loose in the entire house.  It will just be too much for him and he will have trouble remembering his training or finding convenient newspaper.

REMEMBER..     BE KIND..     BE PATIENT..     BE PERSISTENT..     AND GOOD LUCK
