Lola Lola has been sponsored in loving memory of Dr. John Y. Eubank. Once upon a time, there was a beautiful tricolor Basset girl named Lola. Through no fault of her own, she ended up in the West Memphis Animal Shelter yes, the same one that's been in the news for the horrible conditions there. It was dirty and noisy and there were way way too many dogs and cats and mice and gerbils and all sorts of animals there. Lola tried very hard to be brave, but it was SO scary and she was so hungry and tired and lonely and sick with a hurty feeling in her chest that sometimes she almost gave up hope. Then one day a brave rescuer came and took her away from all of the horror and told her, It's all right, little one. Everything starts getting better right now. At first, Lola didn't believe her. She was way too hungry and weak and some of the dogs at the shelter had been mean to her. There were scary things and shots and pills and cage rest and everything was so new and strange. For a long time, it was all she could do to keep on living. The only thing the kept her going was that there was always food, good food, and a kind word and a gentle touch when the food arrived. Gradually, things got better. All the visits to the vet stopped. Her heart and lungs quit hurting. Her butt didn't itch any more. And still the food kept coming, more of it than she could have imagined in the whole world. She couldn't stop staring at her foster mom in open admiration what a tremendous hunter her mom was! Of course, as she started to feel better, Lola decided she had to help. Her foster mom had enough to do, what with other dogs and meals and all. That was clearly why the yard was infested with squirrels, and if there was anything that Lola could do, it was chase squirrels! She also found out that her foster mom loved a good cuddle, and that was something else Lola was good at. Squirrels and cuddles, cuddles and squirrels! Could life be any better? Lola is a brave, adorable girl who's well on her way to being the Basset she was born to be. She gets very attached to her people and will need a home with tolerant other dogs or a life as an only dog.Lola is healthy and happy and ready for loving home of her own.
