WELCOME! We're glad you've stopped by.
Belly Rubs Basset Rescue is a 501(c)3 tax-exempt corporation. We are an all-volunteer organization providing assistance in finding good homes for abandoned, abused, and/or unwanted Basset Hounds in Tennessee, north Mississippi and eastern Arkansas. The bassets we rescue are brought into the homes of our volunteers where they are evaluated and trained as necessary.
We take dogs from shelters where they would otherwise be put down. Currently all our foster families are full and we are not able to accept owner surrenders.
We are a hands-on rescue allowing all basset rescues to be part of our families. All rescues are checked by our veterinarians, wormed if needed, brought current on shots, spayed/neutered, and placed on heart worm preventative if heart worm negative. Rescues that are heart worm positive are treated if medically and financially feasible.

Our Policy and Commitment
-
We take bassets from shelters in TN, eastern AR, and northern MS area when they are in danger of being put-down due to over crowding or cannot be properly cared for by the shelter. When we have room, we also will take bassets from owners who can no longer care for them due to adversity on a case-by-case basis.
-
We prefer to adopt our rescues in TN, eastern AR, and northern MS.
-
All bassets are spayed or neutered, current on all shots, and on heart worm preventative prior to being adopted.
-
If a basset has heart worms when rescued we have it treated if feasible.
-
We will advise you of any known health issues.
-
We attempt to identify any socialization issues and correct them. We will advise you of any that are uncorrected.
-
We will not take or allow to be adopted a known biter.
(Nibbling or mouthing is not biting)
-
We may recommend you do not adopt the basset you apply for if we feel it would not be suitable for your environment.
-
We start or complete house training, if necessary and time permits. You will need to do some house training in your new environment.
-
We have a 14 day trial period to help determine if yours is the right home for the basset.
-
We will come and check your home to identify any issues known to affect bassets. Poor fencing, unsecured swimming pools, and lots of stairs are the most common.
-
We will provide advice to help you correct any issues that come up after you adopt a basset from us.
- Not ready to adopt a basset? Consider becoming a temporary foster home to a Basset.
